Looks great are these photos? -In that case, great work getting them printed that perfectly!

No it is digital rendering, but the 3D model is really clean, you can see the holes are perfect square www.shapeways.com/model/143734…
I do not print it now, but i will do that soon

Yes, I see that, I am impressed by that! :) ...and I saw your discussion with bib, interesting!
Problem is when you have both organic shapes with thin walls and geometric sharp edges in the same fractal...

I hope the developers of the software will think about us in the future version of the prog and add some new options to have a better accuracy and maybe adding some filters for the slices rendering.

I hope Jesse will be able to add color to the voxelslices too.
(It was me who asked him for the voxel export once) :)

I thing it is impossible to add colors to voxel slices, and colors will be not recognise by Fiji, to export colors with an object the mesh format must be VRML2.

Hmmm, I KNOW someone who made a printable object from colored voxelslices a long time ago, but he must have used some other app to convert themI will try to get in contact and hear how he did it...
It is the mandelbulb to the left in this image www.fractalforums.com/index.ph… (colored sandstone...)

I remember the voxels, they were black and white as usual, but the border between the black and white were colored...

So it IS possible! :)

I look to the picture in the link, yes it is a colored 3D print, i have also uploaded a colored mesh to Shapeways and it must a VRML2 format, to do this i use C4D to add the texture to the mesh and exported the file in VRML2.
VRML2 file create a link to the texture, the process is explain here  www.shapeways.com/tutorials/ex…
I have removed my colored mesh from Shapeways, but i will upload a new one soon to show you the result
Fiji image create only OBJ file wich not include textures image

There's something very appealing about this.  I like the simple shapes and colours.

Basic shapes have more eyes catching sometimes and added with primary color it's work well  :)

Thank for your picture, looks good,  i used 1000 voxel for this one and i reduce the mesh  :)

1000 voxel is much too big to be printed because it generate 2 to 5 millions faces mesh. From experience, and depending on geometry and density of the model, between 400 and 600 is the good range, it gives about 1.5 to 2M faces mesh that you can then decimate without killing the topology.

When i open the image sequence in Fiji i scale down the slices to 25% and i obtain a mesh with less of 3'000'000 faces and it's easy to reduce to 1'000'000 poly with Quadric filter without destruction. I always start voxeling my mesh up to 800x. Now it's work well, and you can see that all the squares in the mesh are real square, the render is done with the reduced mesh.

Decimating from 3M to 1M might work well with your models which have very often large flat curved surfaces. I do models with more "fractality" and more details, so the risk to destroy the geometry is higher, that's why I use smaller voxel stacks.

In Fiji, what params do you use in OBJ saving dialog. Do you stay with the default (Threshold 50 and Resampling factor 2)? I am just starting to understand in which circumstances (model geometry) it is relevant to change these params.

No, you must not use the default value, the best vaule is Thresold 0 and resample 1, and if you have correctly check at the opening sequence " convert to RGB " you must save only red chanel for better accuracy.

Threshold 0 I don't like it, it smoothes the mesh too much. I noticed that on geometric models like this one, a value of 100 or 150 gives sharper edges.
resample 1 or 2, it depends on the size on the voxel stack and expected number of faces. I usually use 1, but sometimes I do larger voxels and resample 2 otherwise the mesh would be too big, and again, that creates a kind of smoothing effect before Meshlab.

Well, i never try with a high threshold i must experiment that, for me the 0 value mean the picture is just untouch exactly like the resample set to 1 do not affect the original pictures. With this value you have exactly what you see, it's use the original slices.
